Our Mission

Sligo Environmental Agency (SEA) promotes environmental stewardship through education, community engagement, and hands-on experiences that help people develop a deeper connection to the environment. By cultivating awareness, appreciation, and respect for natural resources, SEA empowers individuals and communities to take meaningful action and participate in the protection and improvement of the environment.

Our Philosophy

At SEA, we believe environmental stewardship is the foundation for lasting environmental change, and environmental stewardship begins with understanding. Through understanding, people develop a deeper connection to the natural world, which fosters appreciation, respect, responsibility, and action.

People are not separate from the environment; they are part of it. The quality of our air, water, green spaces, and natural resources directly influences our health, well-being, communities, and quality of life. When people understand this connection, they are more likely to appreciate, respect, and care for the natural world around them.

SEA believes that lasting environmental progress requires more than programs and projects alone. It requires cultivating understanding, awareness, appreciation, and stewardship within communities. People are more likely to protect what they value, support what they understand, and care for what they feel connected to.

We believe stewardship extends beyond participation in environmental activities. It is reflected in the everyday choices people make as consumers, neighbors, community members, and leaders. Small decisions, when multiplied across communities, can influence markets, institutions, and broader environmental outcomes.

SEA also recognizes that environmental burdens and opportunities are not distributed equally. We believe every community deserves access to healthy, safe, and sustainable environments and are committed to advancing environmental stewardship in ways that are inclusive, equitable, and accessible to all.

Through education, engagement, and hands-on experiences, SEA seeks to help individuals build that connection and discover meaningful ways to participate in environmental stewardship. SEA also serves as a bridge between communities and the broader environmental ecosystem by helping residents learn about, engage with, and benefit from the many organizations, programs, and resources already working to protect and improve the environment.
